Spider-Man Official Morphsuit

For a long time, Morphsuits have been the go-to place for all your costuming needs, but how did they fare when it came to this Spidey-Man costumes test?

In a look over the variety of Spider-Man costumes, Morphsuits really stand out in terms of quality and durability. With their suits made of 13% spandex and 87% polyester, they are of a thicker material and better quality, not to mention that extra bit of stretch, which is often needed when you’re fighting crime!

The fabric feels much nicer on the whole; however, the mask can be quite difficult to see through, even in good light. So you might end up spending a lot of time with the hood rolled down.

In addition to the material’s durability, there is a nice amount of detailing, not only highlighting the Spider-Man logo and webbing, but shading the muscles rather than padding them out with foam.

There is also the latest addition of an internal chest pocket, giving you a decent space for your wallet/phone. When looking at the costume, it is clear that Morphsuits want to go the extra-mile for your superhero experience.

To give it that extra flair there is one other nifty feature with this purchase, a new way to bring the costume ‘to life’ through the Morphsuits app.

Now you may think this idea is quite clever, however it has a down-side; the costume has a large white logo on the right palm, which is needed for the feature to work. Some may not be fazed by this, however it’s definitely worth knowing about before you purchase!

At just shy of £40 (including delivery), this is the most expensive Spider-Man costume available in the UK, however as an official Marvel product, it gets our vote!

If you’re wanting a more authentic costume to wear on a day or night out, this is your go-to-guy.

 

Rubie’s Official Spider-Man Costume

At the middle of our price-range, we have Rubie’s official licensed Spider-suit, coming in at just shy of £30 + free delivery.

Looking at the costume it is really bright, bold, and the pattern is well printed onto the material. Whilst Morphsuits’ outfit has more definition (we would say a solid 9/10), this is our favourite out of the cheaper outfits.

Although there are no gloves or boots supplied, they have printed the suit’s pattern on the cuff and ankles, giving you the option to then get a pair of Spidey gloves or wear your favourite trainers.

To combat issues with visibility the mask has netting over the eyes, rather than solid material as seen previously. As a result of this change there is a better level of comfort overall, which is always a plus.

Now, we have seen a handful of reviews reporting that customers have issues with stitching coming undone or zipper breaks, however as with any mass-produced product, there can be faults every-so-often, but it’s not a widespread issue.

Our main concern with Rubie’s product is the lack of pockets. Now it’s not overly common for costumes to come with pockets, however Morphsuits have taken this problem and given us an internal pocket just under the hood. You should be fine if you’re more of a Peter Parker, suiting up with a rucksack on, but if you don’t have a pair of jeans underneath you’ll be needing a friend to carry your stuff!

For those fun-runs and birthday parties where you don’t need your phone to hand, Rubie’s is slightly-cheaper, and still a great alternative.

 

Amazing Spider-Man 2 Costume

From A2Z Kids we have a Marvel costume, released shortly after their last Spidey instalment. Unlike the others, this costume’s spider-web and logo are raised, giving it a nicer texture than the previous two. It is also worth noting that the Spider-suit pattern is only printed on the front, so from behind, you’re essentially wearing a big blue onesie with a red hood.

For those of a more slender nature, the costume comes pre-fitted with padded muscles built in, ensuring that you have your ‘superhero look’. Of course this is personal preference, but at Spider-Man Toys, we prefer the printed detail on the official Morphsuit.

Similar to Rubie’s outfit, there is a mesh-like material over the eyes, ensuring that you don’t have any visibility issues, which is reassuring. Whilst this decision is great for visibility, the mask itself looks a lot more home-made than the above costumes, with very thick white banding around the eye to hold the mesh in place. If you want that sleek Spidey-look, you get what you pay for, unfortunately.

The hood itself is separate from the costume, but is included in the price; however, once again like Rubie’s, it does not come with the gloves or boots. As a result, if you’re looking for a fully-fledged Spider-Man outfit, you’ll need to make a few extra purchases.

All this aside, it is the most affordable of the three, costing less than £25 and even comes with free delivery! (or collection from your local Argos)

As a one-off, or a costume that you don’t expect to wear often, this would be the best choice. Equally so, if you aren’t fussy but want a budget outfit, we’d say this is your best shot.
